Hans Johnson

Hans Johnson is a senior policy fellow and a Bren fellow with the Public Policy Institute of California. The Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC) is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to improving public policy in California through independent, objective, nonpartisan research. Hans’ research examines interactions between population change and public policies, and includes work on the determinants and consequences of population growth, international and domestic migration, higher education, and housing. He has authored numerous publications on California’s demography. Prior to joining PPIC, he was Senior Demographer at the California Research Bureau, where he conducted research for the State Legislature and Governor’s Office on population issues. Hans has also worked as a demographer for the California Department of Finance, specializing in population projections. He holds a PhD in Demography from the University of California, Berkeley.
